Lots of Time

The beauty of being in Malta for three months is that we feel no pressure to see or do anything extensively. Today we got on the bus to Sliema. A town that is part of the busiest corridor in Malta that includes Paceville, St Julian's and into the grand harbour area that is Valletta. It is here that those interested in nightlife stay as wel as the tourists with very deep pockets. It is congested with people and traffic even in this off season. Many seem to be here from Britain and Europe for a pre Christmas break, the shopping and/or a break from the winter weather to the north.

Our destination was the Tigne Point Mall, a very high-end shopping 'mecca'. It is home to a lot of the famous brand names that you would come across in places like Las Vegas or Palm Springs for our neck of the woods. It was all decorated in silver and gold with white lights sparkling.

We did a quick walk through most of the shops just looking at the price tags and then we found a wonderful food market. Even in this decadent place they still sell mundane items like canned peas. The British 'mushy peas' influence is still strong.

After our initial discovery that we didn't have an electric drip coffee maker in our apartment and we learned how to use our Italian 'Bialetti' that you use on the 'hob' (stove), we decided we wanted one to take home. That purchased, plus a few groceries and we were too burdened down to do anything more than find our way home. Our bus stops along Mosta Road, where we picked up fresh meat for dinner and walked the few blocks to the apartment. It didn't seem to be a very adventurous day but we were still gone 5 hours. Ron came over after dinner with some spare light bulbs and a new balcony chair. On these cooler days we use them inside so we can still be looking out at our beautiful view.

I feel like I am getting a cold and my energy level has dropped substantially tonight. After dark as we sit looking out at the lights on the hills above St Paul's Bay I do my blog. I didn't have much time for painting today, just a quick splash, trying to capture all the colours of the late afternoon sky.
