We are on our way to Valletta, the most popular place to be and be seen during these last few days before Christmas. The postman delivering all the mail.
A lot of screeching and burning rubber as a commercial for a new Subaru was being filmed along the bay promenade as we walked to the bus stop.
I thought you might get a wine or a scotch along the way but "cocktail " means smoothie, lol.
View across the harbour looking at Valletta. I feel apprehension as the busses get busier and the crowds get thicker as we travel through Sliema, St Julian's and into Valletta. This trip is something we know we have to do to see the old streets lit up at night. I look forward to walking these streets after the Christmas season is over and the holiday crowds have gone home. There is so much ancient history on this island but right now it is overwhelmed by the commercialism and retail hype that is here just the same as anywhere at this time. The stores will stay open til 10:00pm tonight and by 7:00pm people are settling in to have wine, coffees, and dinner. It is hard to move but it is also the European way to just saunter. No one is in a hurry. They are enjoying the experience, I think ......
We have a long bus trip back so we agree we have seen the best of the evening and start for home. It's not a lot of miles but it just takes so long to move through all the traffic. Not one of my favourite days and I think it shows here. I can't evoke a lot of enthusiasm. We are just not crowd people anymore. We are so happy to be away from the dense tourist areas in our quiet little community of St Paul's Bay.
